Monday, April 8 – Thursday, April 11 Riding the Winds & Waves of Change 2024 Reinsurance and Excess Surplus Lines Virtual Symposium2 Hello and Welcome! On behalf of the Reinsurance & Excess Surplus Lines (RE&S) Interest Group, welcome to the 2024 RE&S Symposium. While the Interest Group committee was discussing themes for the Symposium, we all agreed that the year was marked by changing and evolving market conditions. The market in early 2023 was very different from the market at the end of the year. So, we landed on the theme of Riding the Winds and Waves of Change. This year, we have updated the schedule to better accommodate your busy work day. Each day of the symposium, we will host a single session at 11 a.m. ET. This adjustment will streamline your par- ticipation, making it more convenient and minimally disruptive. On the first day we will bring back the always popular View from the Top panel. You will have a chance to hear from some of the leaders of the Reinsurance Industry about the latest trends and their outlook. On Tuesday, we will dive into the world of collateralized reinsurance in light of the al- leged fraudulent collateral that has impacted the industry. And on Wednesday we will discuss wind vs water coverage issues, and how they might not be as simple as they seem. Finally, we could not have a symposium in 2024 without discussing generative AI and chatbots. Hear how our industry might be impacted by the opportunities, challenges, and threats of generative AI. I encourage you to participate and please make sure to ask questions, moderators will actively monitor the chat during the sessions. The last 30-minutes of each session will be reserved for questions from the audience. In addition, the session rooms will open 30-minutes early if you would like to introduce yourself to the other attendees. We look forward to connecting with you there! If you like the content of the Symposium, please consider becoming involved in RE&S Interest Group, either as a committee member or member at large. If you would like to learn more, please reach out to myself or any of the other committee members. Finally, I also encourage you to attend the In2Risk 2024 conference in Orlando, FL from Nov. 7–9, and make the most of an outstanding opportunity to learn, connect, and grow. There will be even more worthwhile educational sessions to choose from, and I hope to see you there. Thank you again for attending Riding the Winds and Waves of Change. We hope you enjoy it. Sincerely, Glenn Leung, CPCU, AIAF, ASLI, ARe Vice President, Financial Analysis, The Surplus Line Association of California Chair, Reinsurance and Excess Surplus Lines Interest Group, The Institutes CPCU Society3 2024 Schedule of Events •View from the Top: Embracing Opportunities and Understanding Challenges Due to 2022’s extreme weather conditions and inflationary fears, the start of 2023 saw significant recalibration to market capacity and pricing.
